Horror Themed Shows?

Posted 2020/10/04 954 13

Can anyone recommend good Horror themed shows or Horror documentaries?

Excluding the obligatory: Anything R.L. Stine, Are You Afraid of the Dark?, Aaahh!!! Real Monsters, Dark Shadows, Tales from the Darkside, Groovie Goolies, etc.

I’m looking for anything other than those, either UK or US, any format, any source, from the 1960’s-present that deals with Horror on CipFlix.

I strongly recommend Channel Zero (season 1 might be the best, then 3, 2, 4)

What We Do in the Shadows is a very enjoyable horror comedy for anyone interested. Based on a movie which I haven’t seen personally so I can’t compare but the TV series definitely works.

forgot about the terror, been on my list for a while. haunting of hill house was good, i liked it. the exorcist was also good but i think it was cancelled before any resolution, it certainly was a bit creepy and liked it. what we do in the shadows is obviously excellent, check the movie if you have not seen it. i’ll look into the others you mention!

room 104 looks interesting, gonna check it out.

I liked the The Terror. I haven’t seen the shows you mentioned in your post so I can’t really tell if it’s up your alley. I liked both seasons.
There’s also the already mentioned The Haunting of Hill House – I’ve watched the pilot and shat my pants, never revisited ;o

If you’re also interested in lighter horror-themed shows:

Ash VS Evil Dead – if you’ve enjoyed The Evil Dead films I can recommend this fanservice. It stars Bruce Campbell, the original Ash.
Stan against Evil – if you’ve enjoyed Ash VS Evil Dead you might enjoy this one as well. It has John C. McGinley (Dr. Cox from Scrubs).
What We Do in the Shadows – I’ve only seen the film, but if it’s anything like that it’s a hilarious vampire mockumentary
BrainDead – Sadly only one season. I’ll just post the imdb plotline on this one: A government employee discovers that the cause of the tensions between the two political parties is a race of extraterrestrial insects eating the brains of the politicians.

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina – entertaining teenie stuffs

Outcast – Demonic posessions themed, nothing special but I’ve enjoyed it.
From Dusk Till Dawn – Vampires. I really have no idea if this would be interesting for you.
Constantine – Demons and so on. Cancelled after one season
The Strain – Vampires again, based on the novel. Wiki: The Strain is a 2009 vampire horror novel by Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan.

Long running:

Other mentions:
there’s a The Exorcist show, but I know nothing about it.

I just recently checked out American Horror Story and thought it had a genuine ability to creep me out at times.
The first episode makes very good use of bits of the Insidious soundtrack, which I found to be a major contributor to the experience.

looking for some good horror series. i’ve seen the haunting of hill house and mary anne on netflix, not completely but they were good. somthing similar would be nice, maybe some good recent zombie series. i remember seeing a couple zombie series but they weren’t that great. space and sci fi horror would be nice as well.

what about asian horror series? are there any good ones?

I have been wanting to check out Folklore but haven’t gotten around to it.
Korean zombie series I also haven’t watched but heard good things.

Steven King’s The Outsider had a recent mini-series.

American Horror Story you might enjoy, maybe Harper’s Island if you’re into slashers.

there are actually a few good scary Masters of Horror episodes. Most of em are lame, but there’s a few that are just plain strange and creepy.

I’ve watched both Dark Shadows. That was a task in it self, finding all the episodes. I’ve actually had Tales from the Cryptkeeper for quite some time now but haven’t gotten around to watching it. Though I have seen all of the Tales from the Crypt episodes.

Also adding The Addams Family, The Munsters, Fear Clinic, Freddy’s Nightmares and Masters of Horror to the list in case anyone else is looking for Horror shows.

Um, Masters of Horror? Unless you’re looking something that has a continual story/constant characters throughout the series.

Kindred: The Embraced
Friday the 13th: The Series

Those two should keep you occupied for quite some time… and yes, I agree with stress – you should check out Tales from the Crypt (animated too), but I’m pretty sure that you’ve already watched it… everyone knows about the cryptkeeper!

P.S. have you watched the old dark shadows or the revival from the 1991 too?
